Race Recap: 7/8 - Hickory Motor Speedway

After a long week of finishing up our mid-season maintenance on the #30 late model, we wanted to get a test day in at Hickory Motor Speedway, but were unfortunately rained out. Instead we had to opt for Saturday morning practice at the racetrack for our shake down and testing.

Right off the jump, the car felt pretty good and racey despite some mid-corner tightness that we continued to work on throughout the day.

Even with an average tire draw, we came out of Practice One in P1. For Practice Two we didn’t lose too much ground and came out P3 after doing some small adjustments on the car.

As qualifying came around we felt good about the car’s racing ability and knew we would need a good time to set us up properly against the stacked 20 car field. In qualifying our power gremlins returned yet again and we were down 150 RPM’s and still snagged a solid P3 placement for the starting grid!

In our race strategy we set the car up for a long run and expected a few cautions that never came in the race. We fell to 4th at the drop of the green flag and by the time we re-captured 3rd, the leaders were too far ahead to catch without a yellow flag.

We had the fastest car late in the race, but like I said, it was too little too late. Overall it is another great podium finish for the points chase. Now its time to get find more speed for early on!

Thank you for supporting grassroots racing and we will see you at the track!
