Race Recap: 8/12 - Hickory Motor Speedway

After a long week of getting the car repaired from some chassis problems in our last race, we spent morning practice before the races shaking the car down and working on handling. By Practice Two we seemed to be on a really good track and came away with a P2 pace.

In qualifying we even set our second best qualifying lap time of the year with a 15.520, but it was only good enough to put us in 5th on the starting grid. That really shows how much speed this week’s group of 17 competitors showed up with. Things are definitely heating up as the season begins to wind down.

From the start of the feature race we were pretty quick and got around the 4th place car early on. We were also able to get on the inside of the 3rd place car where we battled for about 10 laps before I settled in behind him to give the tires a break and let them cool off before completely blistering them. After another 10 laps or so of keeping position I started reeling 3rd back in when a caution came out and bunched everyone in the field back together.

For the restart I felt like I was in a good position but as we went green I was shoved up the track by the 25 car. I had to spin the tires to keep from heading into the wall and lost a ton of grip in the process. After a battle for 2nd I was shuffled back to 9th and only able to recapture one spot before taking 8th place under the checkered flag.

The result does not match our effort or how competitive the car is right now, but we will be back in a couple weeks with only more to prove!

Thank you for supporting grassroots racing and we will see you at the track!
